On our way south down to the Lake District, Josh had the brilliant idea of detouring a bit to visit Caerlaverock Castle {Car-la-va-rock} in Dumfries. The kids really love castles, especially new ones we haven’t seen before and that they climb on! Plus, it is the only castle we’ve seen with a real moat, though I will admit it was fairly smallish. However, the moat sported some fish which was super-fun, especially for Luke who loves all things aquatic. All in all, it was a gorgeous day and we loved stretching our legs and running around these lovely grounds. They have a nice tea room and shop, in which we enjoyed a beverage and got the kids a great Scottish Fairy Tales Book for under 4 pds. They also have a fun play area with things for bigger and smaller kids.
